From a ground based or aerial chainsaw course, all of our training is suited to those currently working, or aspiring to work, in Forestry, Arboriculture and land-based industries.
Our chainsaw training courses are FISA, LANTRA and NPTC accredited as recommended by HSE, to ensure you gain the necessary chainsaw certificate. All chainsaw training is provided by fully qualified instructors and assessors.
Ground-based courses cover both Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications from chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting to severing uprooted trees.
We also offer aerial chainsaw training courses from tree climbing and aerial rescue to aerial tree rigging.

This (L2) chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting course is aimed at novice operators with little or no experience of chainsaw maintenance and use, who are required to operate chainsaws for cross cutting techniques and felling to 15’ (380mm) guide bar.

NPTC (L3) award in felling and processing trees. These chainsaw training courses cover trees whose diameter at felling height is over 380mm. The course will help you to identify and understand risk assessments and emergency procedures on the work site to help promote knowledge of health and safety legislation and industry good practice.

NPTC (L3) award in severing uprooted or windblown trees. This two day unit covers the clearing of individual and multiple windblown trees, which still have the root plates attached. It will cover trees that have been windblown or uprooted by storm damage, earth movement or another physical agent.

NPTC (L3) award in Emergency tree work operations training course will provide you with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to assist you in using a chainsaw and being confident and capable of dealing with trees within an emergency.

This popular one day chainsaw training refresher course is ideally designed for the harvesting operators working regularly on commercial production sites and will cover update training a variety of tree felling and takedown techniques. It will cover trees sizes up to and in excess of 2 guide bar lengths. (Provided such trees are available on site and the operators have CS32), and cover the requirements expected in standing crops. The trainees will be given instruction on site preparation, risk assessment, PPE and equipment preparation. In one day it will provide instruction on take down techniques and the use of a variety of aid tools including lift wedges and hydraulic wedge techniques where available and requested. A Chainsaw Refresher Training Record will be issued for all attendees with specific recommendations.

Our two day Lantra chainsaw courses cover chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting. It’s suitable for people who intend to use a chainsaw for business, domestic or leisure activities, but do not intend to work within the forestry and arboriculture sector. The chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting course is the perfect introduction for those looking to become more competent with their chainsaw such as fencing contractors, conservation, gamekeepers and those working in agriculture.

NPTC (L3) award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw using Free-fall Techniques. This chainsaw course covers the removal of single limb/parts of tree canopy to the complete removal of trees without the use of rigging equipment. It is also about the removal of tree sections from the crown using free-fall or hand thrown techniques.
Duration: 2 Days – Cost: £320.00 + v.a.t
NPTC (L3) award in Aerial Tree Pruning. This course covers arboricultural pruning operations off ground in trees, carrying out reductions, crown-lifting, re-pollarding, thinning and crown cleaning. You will need to carry out a tree hazard evaluation and perform a ‘working at height’ assessment before starting this work. Access to the tree will be by recognised appropriate methods and in line with the above assessments. You will select suitable pruning tools relevant to the work to be carried out. Your work must meet the requirements of current legislation and current industry guidance. This standard is for those who prune trees off ground.

NPTC (L3) award in Aerial Tree Rigging. This chainsaw course covers the removal of sections from a tree crown under the control of rope rigging and lifting gear. The work will be carried out by operator with significant experience of arboriculture operations and chainsaw operations in a canopy. You will carry out a tree hazard and a ‘working at height’ assessment to determine if the operative is safe to perform the work and to determine the safest and most efficient access method.
