Botley Wood Is Now Complete

Created as a legacy project for family, friends and colleagues to enjoy for generations to come, Botley Wood is now complete 🌳

Owned by David Hunt, co-founder of Wessex Woodland Management, and managed by his son Charlie Hunt, the vision from the outset was to create more than just a woodland planting scheme — but a place for people. Somewhere for walks, wildlife, sporting days, conversations and time spent outdoors within the wider chalk downs landscape.

Set within the Hampshire Downs and Berkshire & Marlborough Downs National Character Areas, the 3.80ha EWCO scheme has been designed to complement and extend adjacent Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland while sitting naturally within the rolling downland scenery.

These final photos show the mulching operation across the newly planted site — a key part of establishment on the shallow, freely draining chalk soils, helping conserve moisture and improve survival rates during the critical early years.

Planted with a diverse and resilient mix including Beech, Hornbeam, Walnut, Lime, Italian Alder, Red Oak, Nordman Fir, Western Red Cedar, Hazel, Field Maple and woody shrubs.

A woodland built for the future — and one the Hunt family hope people will enjoy long after these trees have matured.
